Current Award Description
Thomas Harshman Memorial Scholarship
In memory of “the Father of USC Theater” Thomas Harshman
Sponsored by the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair
For a graduating USCHS senior accepted to a college/university to major or minor in the performing or theater arts
Candidates must have participated in the Upper St. Clair High School spring musical or fall play for two years.
Completed applications must be submitted to the USCHS Counseling Office by Noon on April 1.
James Bennett Memorial Scholarship
In memory of the late USCHS Band Director and Fine & Performing Arts Curriculum Leader.
Sponsored by the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair.
For a graduating USCHS senior accepted to a college or university with a declared major or minor in music or music education.
Candidates must have participated in an Upper St. Clair HS Marching Band, Concert or Symphonic Band, Jazz or Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Orchestra or Musical Pit Orchestra for at least two years.
Completed applications must be submitted to the USCHS Counseling Office by Noon on April 1.
Spirit of the Community Scholarship
In memory of the late Linda Serene and John Small.
Sponsored by the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair.
For a graduating USCHS senior who has demonstrated exceptional involvement in academic, athletic, and/or artistic pursuits as well as in civic & community engagement.
Candidates must have been accepted to a college, university, trade school, or the military. In addition, applicants must have meaningfully participated in at least two extracurricular activities for at least two years each, as well as served the community through civic engagement and service.
Completed applications must be submitted to the USCHS Counseling Office by Noon on April 1.
T.J. White Athletic Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will attend a four-year college and plans to continue participation in his/her sport. The applicant must have been a member of a USC team sport for all four years of high school and received at least two varsity letters in that sport. A 3.2 GPA (grade point average) is required for consideration. This scholarship will not exceed $750 and will be presented at Awards Night. The T.J. White Athletic Scholarship will be available every year through 2027.
Completed applications must be submitted to the USCHS Counseling Office by Noon on April 1.
John & Kathy Burke DeBlassio Future Educator Scholarship
The John and Kathy Burke DeBlassio Scholarship is sponsored by the USCHS Class of 1971 to honor the legacies of Dr. John DeBlassio and Kathy Burke DeBlassio, both USC Hall of Fame teachers, for their dedication to and support of the many students they taught and mentored throughout the years. It is awarded to an Upper St. Clair High School graduating senior who is planning to be a teacher/educator and has a demonstrated record of service to others. To be eligible for this award, applicants must have been accepted to a college or university with a major in education. This scholarship will be presented at the annual Awards Night.
Please submit this application to the USCHS Counseling Office by Noon on April 1.
Krishnan Sivaram Scholarship
This scholarship program is funded through a gift from the children of Sivaram and Revathi Krishnan to the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair. A scholarship of $2500 will be awarded to one Upper St. Clair High School (“USCHS”) graduating senior for college tuition. Sivaram and Revathi Krishnan are the proud parents of 3 USCHS graduates and currently reside in California. They have always believed that success requires risk taking and commitment. Dr. Krishnan arrived in the United States from India by ship in 1961, landing at Ellis Island with a single suitcase and $25 in his pocket. He went on to receive a PhD in Chemistry from Carnegie Melon University. He has since had a successful career as a scientist and innovator. This journey could not have happened without several scholarships that he received for his education, the risks that he took, his commitment to his family and to the value of education. Dr. Krishnan’s children want to thank USCHS for the strong foundation provided to them by its faculty and staff. Such support has enabled them to successful in their own careers. The scholarship provided under this program is intended to “pay forward” that initial scholarship given to Dr. Krishnan.

STEAM Innovation Scholarship
The STEAM Innovation Scholarship has been established by the Stroyne Family to honor Mr. Steve Stroyne and his love of technology. Mr. Stroyne was a Technology Education teacher at Upper St. Clair High School before passing away in 2019. He was passionate about guiding his students and loved every piece of technology he could get his hands on. This scholarship is intended for students who will continue their study in a STEAM or Technology related field. Applicants should exhibit good character and demonstrate an enthusiasm for activities and courses connected to STEAM.
The STEAM Innovation Scholarship is presented during Awards Night to a graduating Senior from Upper St. Clair High School and this application must be submitted by Noon on April 1.
